Well….the transfer window is no closed until January, not many surprises on the Premier League merry-go-round this time with the exception of the goings on over at Eastlands.
So Man City are now potentially one of the richest clubs in the world eh?. Cue mad scenes of City fans celebrating like they had finally ended their long, long wait for silverware. Cries of “forget United we are now number 1″ rang out all around Britain’s biggest council house.
Let’s look at the facts shall we, yes it looks like City have had a great investor come in and buy the club, yes they somehow managed to convince Robiniho that he had more to gain by coming to City than making his desired move to Chelsea but in the cold light of day what has actually happened?
Investment is one thing, success is completely different. It took United a very long time to get to the position they are in now with some very nervy moments along the way. Yes Chelsea got a rapid turnaround in their fortunes after the arrival of Mr Abramovich but the have not been Champions for the last 2 years, nor have they managed to win the Champions League. All this was achieved with a much better squad than City currently have. Robiniho may well be a world class striker but only a day ago he publically stated his only desire was to leave Madrid and play for Chelsea, what has suddenly changed his mind and made him move to City where the chances of Champions League football are slim to say the least.
Only time will tell if City’s new owners will bring about the massive changes they are promising, one thing is for certain though….the pressure on Mark Hughes to deliver success has just been turned up by quite a few notches.
