Finally got round to going to the flicks to see the latest instalment of the Die Hard “Franchise” - Die Hard 4.0 or Live Free or Die Hard as it was known in America.
As a huge fan of the previous 3 DH movies, I was really looking forward to seeing how the adventures of John McClane would continue, particularly after a gap of 12 years between this and the third film Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995).
Despite the gap and his advancing years, Bruce Willis is once again awesome as the worlds most unlucky cop. This time caught up in a cyber terrorism plot to bring the USA to a standstill, McClane is charged with escorting a suspected hacker, Matt Farrell (Justin Long) to Washington DC for questioning.
After a failed attempt on Farrell’s life at his apartment, the two join forces in an attempt to unravel who is behind the plot, whilst trying to stay alive.
As we have come to expect from the DH movies there is action aplenty with car chases, helicopters even a duel between a jet fighter and a Semi. If you are looking for no nonsense action, with a dash of comedy and a side order of explosion then you will already be a fan of these films, anyone new to the franchise (where have you been?) may want to check out the DVD box set of the original trilogy before watching this one.
Justin Long is excellent in this as the cocky hacker who find himself being shot at every other moment and really comes into his own as the film progresses. There are many other great performances including Timothy Olyphant as Thomas Gabriel the villain to Willis’s hero and Maggie Q who plays Mai Lihn, girlfriend and right hand woman of Gabriel and his organization.
The action is as you would expect from the franchise, sometimes a little over the top but hell it’s a Die Hard movie,
and the fight scene between Willis and Q is well worth the admission on it’s own.
All in all another great chapter to this already legendary story.
Yippee Ki Yay Mother….
