Spider-Man III

The end….?

Saw Spider-Man 3 last night at the Odeon in Lincoln.
This was probably my most anticipated movie of the year and my feelings after seeing are mixed….

As a massive fan of the first two SM films, I was really looking forward to see how the story would end but surprisingly on the morning of going to watch it Sony and Columbia announced their plans to make another 3 Spidey flicks, despite the fact that the cast and director had only signed on to do three and the feeling was that 3 would be the end of their participation.

Hopefully common sense will prevail and we won’t see another painfully slow death á la the Batman debacle.

So, on to this the third chapter in the web slingers story and the return of the Green Goblin, all be it in his junior form joined by The Sandman and fan favourite Venom.

This really did feel like the end of the franchise with some of the plot developments ( I won’t give any away in case you have not seen it yet) but also for me was a little lacking in comparison to the previous two films with the odd dodgy moment of musical intervention.

As always Tobey Maguire was perfect as the hapless Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst makes a brilliant Mary Jane Watson, add to that Topher Grace as Eddie Brock/Venom and Thomas Haden Church as Flint Marko/The Sandman along with the regular cast members from the first two films and yet again we have a top notch cast working well together.

To sum up I would have to recommend this film but add that it is not quite as good as I had hoped it would be (more Venom would of been nice!), die hard fans of the comic book genre will love it but others may find it slightly too long and a little confusing, what with the three separate villains and their own story arcs.

I have always loved Spider-Man and director Sam Raimi has done a wonderful job bringing him to the big screen, if he and the main cast members do not sign up for more sequels then at least we can all fall back on the DVD and remember Spidey the way he should be.
