Saw this last night @ the Odeon in Lincoln fully expecting to be disappointed but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this festive rom-com.
The Holiday tells the story of two unhappy women on either side of the Atlantic and follows them over their Christmas holiday.
In an attend to get away from their troubled personal lives, Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Iris (Kate Winslet) agree to swap homes and lives for two weeks at Christmas.
Whilst staying in Surrey at Iris’s house Amanda meets Graham (Jude Law) the “older more respectable big brother” after he arrives drunk one night expecting to be able to sleep at this sisters. Their relationship develops (won’t give anymore away) but with Amanda only staying for two weeks, will it continue?
Meanwhile in Los Angeles, Iris meets one of Amanda’s neighbours Arthur (Eli Wallach) a retired Hollywood writer and Miles (Jack Black) a composer who works with Amanda’s ex.
After helping Arthur when he gets lost on the way home, Iris persuades him to attend a bash being thrown for him by the Screen Writers Guild and with the help of Miles, get in to shape for his big night.
As usual I won’t go into detail as I do not want to spoil the movie for people who have yet to see it, suffice to say there is plenty for everyone in this feel good movie, one for the couples or even for the those just needing a bit of a laugh.
