“Is it a bird, is it a plane?”

….No it’s a really good film!
Went to watch Superman Returns last night at the Odeon in Lincoln with Ryan, and yes it is as good as I had hoped for.
The trailer had really made me want to see this film but as we all know sometimes the trailer is actually the best bits of the film and the rest is disappointing.
Thankfully this was not the case with this film, which is very enjoyable with a good blend of humour, action and the continuing love triangle between Clark, Lois and Superman, which is now kind of a love square with the introduction of Richard White (Scott from X-Men).

When Bryan Singer left the X-Men behind a lot of people were gutted, myself included as I really enjoyed the first two X-Men movies, but the third turned out better than expected and allowed Singer to turn his talents to bringing the man of steel back to the big screen.

Singer should also be credited for his chose of the lead roles, which proved to be inspired.
Newcomer Brandon Routh was excellent in his dual roles of Clark Kent and Superman and reminded me of the late great Christopher Reeves portrayal in the original film, which for me personally was nice as to me and my generation Chris Reeve IS SUPERMAN.
Kate Bosworth’s portrayal of feisty reporter Lois Lane was also a plus for the movie, I went into the movie not really knowing a lot about Ms Bosworth having never seen any of her previous work but was pleasantly surprised her performance and on screen chemistry with Routh.
Eyebrows were raised when Kevin Spacey was cast as Superman’s Arch enemy, Lex Luthor (mine included) but yet again Spacey delivered a great performance as the slightly unhinged, property mad Luthor. Spacey easily manages to convey the air of menace lying just below the surface of Luthor and is charming and funny when needed, then brutally vicious when confronting the man of steel.
With a great supporting cast, including Frank Langella and James Marsden great action sequences and excellent special effects to back them up, this film delivers on all fronts and I highly recommend it to anybody.
