Some people are on the pitch, they think it’s all over….
And so the 2006 World Cup ends, Italy are the new World Champions….
After a month of great football (excluding our boys!) the World Cup came to an end on Sunday night with a headbutt and a penalty shootout.
After a reasonably enjoyable 90 minutes between France and Italy, Zinedine (What did you say about my mother?) Zidane ended his illustrious career with a headbutt to the chest of Italian defender Marco Materazzi, sending him flying in a rather comical way.

After 5 or so minutes of debate on the sidelines the referee finally should the Frenchman the red card and gave him his marching orders.

This World Cup has been a disappointment for many of the Worlds greats (Ronaldinho, Rooney to name two) but it also reminded us of what a great player Zidane has been and it was a shame to have to see him trudge past the World Cup on his way to the dressing rooms.
On the flip side however, congratulations to the Azzurri for their 4th World Cup win and finally
getting past their penalty shootout demon’s which are second only to our own.
